Ted Kennedy's brain surgery called successful

On June 2, 2008, Ted Kennedy underwent surgery at Duke University for his brain tumor. Surgery was considered the most aggressive route possible in treating the tumor; his doctors had not previously mentioned the possibility of surgery to the public. The surgery, conducted by Dr. Allan Friedman, lasted for about three and a half hours, and according to Friedman, it was successful in its goals. Friedman said that the surgery was performed on Kennedy while he was awake and that he did not expect Kennedy to suffer any permanent neurological effects from the surgery. It is believed that the intention of the surgery was to reduce the tumor as much as possible (it is considered impossible to surgically remove such a tumor entirely) so that the subsequent treatments will be more likely to succeed. Kennedy is planned to spend a brief period recuperating from the surgery before beginning chemotherapy and radiation treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Universal Studio backlot on fire - historic loss

* Everything can be replaced or rebuilt, they say...

On June 1, 2008 an explosion reportedly ignited a four-to-five building fire throughout the backlot studios area in Universal City, California. The New York Street facade, a King Kong exhibit, and the Universal video vault were among the buildings engulfed by flames, causing more than $25 million worth of damage. At least one building has been destroyed by the flames and as many as three blocks of movie facades have been destroyed, including two mock New York and New England streets and Courthouse Square, the set most famously known from the Back to the Future trilogy and the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird. Helicopters have been dropping water on to the burning structures, and television pictures showed flames leaping into the air as a thick cloud of smoke covered the site. This smoke was caused by the burning plastic in the video vault building. In a subsequent press conference, studio president Ron Meyer announced that it was a video vault building, not a film vault, that was destroyed (contrary to earlier reports that suggested the film vault was destroyed or damaged) and that nothing destroyed is considered irreplaceable.

There is one report of smoke inhalation and three people suffering 'minor injuries' but no fatalities.

Frontier Airlines Chapter 11

Frontier Airlines, Inc. (Founded 1994) is a low-cost airline based at Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado, USA. The carrier operates flights throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Frontier is a major low-cost airline with two thirds of its US destinations west of the Mississippi River. The carrier maintains its primary hub at Denver International Airport, and provides regional service to the surrounding Rocky Mountain States through a code-share agreement with Great Lakes Airlines.

In March 2007, Republic Airlines slowly began replacing Horizon Air as the operator of their feeder service, Frontier Airlines operated by Republic Airlines; Frontier JetExpress, which was operated by Horizon Air, ceased operations on November 30, 2007.

On April 10, 2008, Frontier announced that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to its credit card processor, First Data, attempting to withhold significant proceeds from ticket sales. First Data suddenly decided that it would withhold 100% of the carriers proceeds from ticket sales beginning May 1st. According to Frontier's press release, "This change in practice would have represented a material change to our cash forecasts and business plan. Unchecked, it would have put severe restraints on Frontier's liquidity..." Its operation continues uninterrupted, though, as Chapter 11 bankruptcy protects the corporation's assets and allows restructuring to ensure long-term viability.
