On December 24, 2008, Mychal Bell was arrested and charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, and simple assault, having attempted to steal clothes from a department store and reportedly fought back against a security guard and off-duty police officer. He was released on $1,300 bond.
Jena Six was the name given to a group of six black teenagers charged with the beating of Justin Barker, a white student at Jena High School in Jena, Louisiana, United States, on December 4, 2006. Barker was injured, but was released from the emergency room the same day. He has since brought suit against members of the Jena Six, their parents, the school district, and others allegedly involved.

On June 1, 2008 an explosion reportedly ignited a four-to-five building fire throughout the backlot studios area in Universal City, California. The New York Street facade, a King Kong exhibit, and the Universal video vault were among the buildings engulfed by flames, causing more than $25 million worth of damage. At least one building has been destroyed by the flames and as many as three blocks of movie facades have been destroyed, including two mock New York and New England streets and Courthouse Square, the set most famously known from the Back to the Future trilogy and the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird. Helicopters have been dropping water on to the burning structures, and television pictures showed flames leaping into the air as a thick cloud of smoke covered the site. This smoke was caused by the burning plastic in the video vault building. In a subsequent press conference, studio president Ron Meyer announced that it was a video vault building, not a film vault, that was destroyed (contrary to earlier reports that suggested the film vault was destroyed or damaged) and that nothing destroyed is considered irreplaceable.
There is one report of smoke inhalation and three people suffering 'minor injuries' but no fatalities.

5 years after John Ritter died, his widow filed a $67 million wrongful death suit against radiologist Dr. Matthew Lotysch and cardiologist Dr. Joseph Lee, alleging they misdiagnosed his condition and that contributed to his death. Several of the defendants have settled out of court for a total of $14 million, including Providence St. Joseph, which settled for $9.4 million.

We lost two very young Hollywood actors; Brad Renfro (25) and Heath Ledger (28). They started very young and made well over 10 movies each. They worked in very good movies. They were on their way to make history... I was looking forward to see what they were going to do next 30-40 years.
Heath Ledger was already an Oscar nominated actor.
Their lives were better than what most people can imagine. They were so young and had a lot of living to do. Both Brad and Heath died of drug overdose.
These were truly shocking deaths in Hollywood (*Head Ledger died in NY).

Over a month later San Diego County Medical Examiner's office released the cause of Ike Turner's death. It was a drug overdose combined with other old-age related diseases.
"On January 16, 2008 it was reported by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office that he died from a cocaine overdose. "The cause of death for Ike Turner is cocaine toxicity with other significant conditions," such as hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema, Supervising Medical Examiner Investigator Paul Parker told CNN"
On December 11, 2007, Trebek (Host of the game show Jeopardy!) was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a minor heart attack. It is not known when he will be released from the hospital but a spokesman expects him to return to the production of Jeopardy!, scheduled for January 2008.

At 8:45 am, on Monday, September 3, 2007, Fossett took off in a single-engine plane from a private airstrip known as Flying M Ranch ( 38°36?13?N, 119°00?11?W), near Smith Valley, 30 miles south of Yerington, Nevada, near Carson City and the California border. According to CNN News, the search for Fossett began about six hours later. He was flying in a Bellanca Super Decathlon with tail number N240R registered to the "Flying M Hunting Club, Inc". There has been no signal from the plane's emergency locator radio beacon, which is designed to be automatically activated in the event of a crash.
Fossett took off with enough fuel for four to five hours of flight, according to Civil Air Patrol Maj. Cynthia S. Ryan. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson noted that Fossett apparently did not file a flight plan. On Tuesday night, teams of 10 aircraft search but found no trace of any wreckage after scouring a large chunk of rugged terrain
